SIGNALS YOUNG WRITERS AWARDS 2021

The Michael King Writers Centre is excited to announce a fantastic new opportunity for young writers to showcase their talent with writing awards that offer cash prizes and a writing mentorship with a Penguin Random House New Zealand author for the overall winner …

  • Entry to the Awards is open to young writers who are resident in Aotearoa New Zealand and aged between 16 and 21 at the competition closing date (15 October 2021) …

  • There is no fee to enter.

  • There are three divisions: Fiction (maximum 1500 words); Poetry (maximum 30 lines); Creative Non-Fiction (1500 words)

  • Writers can enter more than one division, but no more than one entry per division.

  • Each finalist will receive a $150 prize.

  • The overall winner selected from the three finalists will win an additional $150, plus receive a mentorship with a Penguin Random House author and may be published here on www.ketebooks.co.nz

  • Entries open on 26 July 2021 and close at 11.59pm on 15 October 2021.

  • Entries must be submitted using the entry form found online via the MKWC website.

  • Entries must be original work by the individual author. No entry may have been published or broadcast or won a prize in a previous competition.

  • The three winning stories in the Open Division may be published by www.ketebooks.co.nz and on the Michael King Writers Centre website.
