Celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori!

From Monday 14 September, throughout Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, we're excited to welcome award-winning journalist, author, and lecturer Dr Atakohu Middleton (Waikato, Pākehā) as Kete’s guest editor. Keep an eye out for Atakohu’s editorial about the accessibility of literature in te reo Māori and a fabulous interview with Dr Darryn Joseph.

Throughout the week Kete will feature reviews, interviews and extracts in te reo Māori, with links to English language versions or translations.

Guest editor Dr Atakohu Middleton

Dr Atakohu Middleton (Waikato, Pākehā) has worked as a reporter and feature writer for three decades. She held the Commonwealth Press Union Harry Brittain Fellowship for New Zealand in 2005 while working at the New Zealand Herald and has won six national media awards for news and feature writing. She has also been a senior lecturer at AUT. Her first book, Kia Hiwa Rā! Māori Journalism in Aotearoa New Zealand (Huia Publishers, 2023), was based on her PhD thesis. Her collection of short stories in te reo Māori, Waka Aroha: He Kohinga Pakipoto has just been published by Auckland University Press.
