Listen: The impact of humans on NZ forests

08 October 2026 First published RNZ

The impact of humans on New Zealand's forests has been dramatic ... and now a new book by artist and social historian Richard Wolfe reveals in pictures just how dramatic.

The Passing of the Forest features more than 50 colour reproductions from New Zealand and Australian artists showing the effect of deforestation but also explores ways to replace what's been lost.

Richard Wolfe joined Jesse Mulligan of RNZ's Afternoons show to discuss.
