West West Coast Plays: with an introduciton by Carol Dawber

These ten plays written over the first two decades of this century are a record of a community-based theatre project, covering key issues on the West Coast: change in mining communities, 1080, the Pike Mine Disaster, race relations, corporate arrogance, an early environmentalist and his relationship with James Joyce's sister (a nun in Greymouth), asylums and mental illness, the transition economy, native logging and dairying.An introduction by Dr Caroll Dawber situates the work in the long tradition of community theatre on the Coast, from the gold rush onwards.
