Between

'Between' can be the fertile space where one person ends and another begins, the anxiety after a wave lands on a beleaguered shore and before the next begins, the quiet after a neighbour's machine finishes its clatter and beetles start to buzz. It can be a certain place as when a dear friend lies dying and an uncertain place when we find ourselves negotiating with a new intelligence. It can be as uncertain as the cable linking two towers that holds a single man and as certain as the thermal air that rises from earth to sky. In an audacious new collection, Sue Fitchett explores the boundary of what is certain and uncertain to find a place between, where it's possible to pause a while and consider what it is we are doing on this planet of ours and who it is we are.
