The 78th edition of the New Zealand Cricket Almanack, and the 43rd under the current editors, covers a year of almost non-stop activity for New Zealand teams. The Black Caps were involved in 36 matches during that period, with the historic 3-0 test series win in India being the undoubted highlight. They also took part in series in Sri Lanka and Pakistan (including the Champions Trophy) and hosted England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The England series was notable for New Zealand equaling their biggest winning margin in test cricket in the third test at Hamilton.

The White Ferns had one of their busiest years, their highlight being winning the Twenty20 World Cup played in United Arab Emirates. They also toured England, Australia and India and hosted Australia (twice) and Sri Lanka. The second women's Under 19 World Cup, played in Malaysia, is also covered in this edition.

Domestic cricket featured the Dream11 Super Smash Twenty20 competition, with men's and women's double-headers, the Plunket Shield, the Ford Trophy and the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield. There is also coverage of Hawke Cup and age-group cricket.
