On 15 November 1825 an extended conversation between Christian missionaries and Ngapuhi rangatira was recorded at Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands. The dialogue in English and Te Reo involved Ngapuhi leader Hongi Hika and kinsmen, and missionaries led by Henry Williams. Translated by a young missionary William Gilbert Puckey, the exchange preserved a rare glimpse into the cultural dynamics of the time.
