REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN FOR NATIONAL POETRY DAY 2025
On Friday 22 August, words will take flight as poetry pulses through streets, libraries, parks, bookshops, and unexpected corners of Aotearoa. Now in its 28th year, Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day once again invites communities nationwide to create, share, and celebrate the power of poetry.
The Book Awards Trust encourages event organisers across the motu to start planning now for the big event, as registrations and seed funding applications open today. “From open mic nights and school initiatives to live performances and contemplative gatherings – whether it’s quietly powerful or joyfully bold, traditional or unexpected – we’re excited to see what you create,” says National Coordinator Gill Hughes.
As Robin McDonnell, CEO of NPD sponsor Phantom Billstickers puts it: “Poetry is the heartbeat of our language, a rhythm that belongs to everyone.” “We believe in the power of poetry to bridge gaps, bring people together, and breathe unexpected beauty into everyday moments.”
Seed funding applications for Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day close at 5pm on Tuesday 3 June 2025. Resources to help plan and promote events – including registration forms, funding guidelines, and templates – are now available on the National Poetry Day website.
