Elizabeth Smither has written six novels, six collections of short stories and eighteen poetry collections. She has twice won the major award for New Zealand poetry and was the 2001–2003 Te Mata Poet Laureate. In 2004, she was awarded an honorary DLitt from the University of Auckland for her contribution to literature and was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit. She received the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement in 2008. Her most recent book, Night Horse (Auckland University Press, 2017), won the 2018 Ockham New Zealand Book Award for Poetry.

Dr Luke Smythe is a lecturer in art history, art theory and curatorship in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. He has previously taught art history at the University of Otago and the Wesleyan University. From 2013-2014, he worked as a Curatorial Fellow in Postwar Art at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. His articles and essays have appeared in many journals and catalogues, including October, Modernism/ modernity, Art Journal (US), and Oxford Art Journal. He has worked on exhibitions at a number of museums and galleries, including the Chinati Foundation, Yale University Art Gallery and the Pinakothek der Moderne. His work has been supported by the DAAD, the Fulbright Foundation, the Yale Centre for British Art, the Bayerisches Staatsministerium fur Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst, and Creative New Zealand.

NICK SNEDDON is a senior lecturer in animal breeding and genetics at Massey University. His research interests include cattle and sheep breeding as well as bioinformatics of diverse microbial populations. Prior to working at Massey University, he worked for Fonterra in R&D setting up a genomics lab capability. NATALIA MARTIN is a lecturer in animal science at Massey University. Originally from Argentina, she completed an agronomy degree at the University of Buenos Aires, and came to New Zealand to work in agriculture. She worked in technical and field research positions at the Massey University’s sheep, beef and dairy farms for several years, completing a PhD evaluating the finishing performance of beef sires in a dairy-beef system. Her research interests include farm animal growth and meat quality.
