Catherine Dempsey lives on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in Flatrock, a small town near St. John's. She and her husband began raising bees in 2012, starting with two hives. Soon she was involved with establishing the Newfoundland and Labrador Beekeeping Association, building an active network of beekeepers across the province. A former elementary school teacher, Catherine loves sharing information about the joys and challenges involved with keeping bees. DAPHNE'S BEES is her first book. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria. A graphic designer and award-winning artist, she has illustrated books in Germany, Bulgaria, and Canada. She divides her time between St. John's, Newfoundland, where she lives in a small house overlooking the harbour, and Rusalya, Bulgaria, where she tends her family's vegetable garden and enjoys the antics of Bucky the dog and Ginger the cat. Her book The Wall & the Wind was included in the Globe & Mail's top 100 books of 2020.

Karen Denyer MSc (Hons) has worked as an ecological consultant for over 20 years, much of it in wetland ecology. She has also been involved for many years in environmental education, and has written a number of publications. She has been Executive Officer at National Wetlands Trust since 2008. Monica Peters has a PhD from Waikato University on the ecology of community environmental groups and is currently Co-Chair, Citizen Science Association of Aotearoa New Zealand. Her background includes hands-on conservation, research, science communication, international development and fine arts.

Kathy Derrick (editor), co-founder of Pavlova Press, writes flash fiction and novels. She is striving to change the narrative around how authors produce, publish and are recognised for their work. Jac Jenkins (editor), co-founder of Pavlova Press, wandered many a winding road before returning to her home ground of Northland. She and her partner, Alistair Tulett, now farm in the Hokianga, where she has learned how to fix fences and perhaps how to stay. Wherever she goes, she writes. Simon Devitt Photographer Simon Devitt has been a professional photographer for over 25 years, and his work ranks as some of the most important in New Zealand architectural photography. He is a regular contributor to books and magazines in New Zealand and internationally including HOME, Urbis, Architecture New Zealand, Dwell, Wallpaper*, Habitus and Indesign. He is an educator and a photobook creator, including the award-winning Rannoch, and the Ripe Fruit and All Things Considered series, among others. Simon is based in Wellington, New Zealand. Andrea Stevens Writer With a professional background in architecture and magazine editing, Andrea is founder and director of the writing agency Folio. Her work spans architecture, technology, design, culture and business, as she helps makers and creators tell their stories to the world. She has written four books, the most recent being Beyond the State: New Zealand State Houses from Modest to Modern, co- authored with Bill McKay, with images by Simon Devitt and published by Penguin. Beyond the State was short-listed in the 2015 New Zealand Books Awards. Andrea is based in Auckland, New Zealand. Luke Scott Designer Luke is a designer from Auckland, working on projects in New Zealand and London. To date, his work across design, strategy, digital and art direction has been recognised with over 25 national and international design awards. He is a strategic designer, combining an astute business acumen with creative thinking and excellent design craft to create design solutions that can reshape businesses.
Susan Devoy was born in 1964, the only girl in a family ofseven children. Growing up in Rotorua, Susan was a talentedsportswoman, becoming a four-time world squash championand New Zealand's greatest squash player. Her fierce drivemeans her life has seen hardly a dull moment.She lives in theBay of Plenty with her husband, John. They have four boys.
